Walacandra (Vāracandra/Bāracandra), not really sure of the correct spelling. The first seems to be a rendering of a Nepalese or Maithili dialect, the other two seem to to be more consistent with Indian usage.
Except for the biographies of Rechungpa, there seems to be not much information on him anywhere else. However, he definitely was a historical figure and is mentioned in the colophons of at least three texts included in the bka' 'gyur, that he helped translate into Tibetan. There are a further twenty-six works included in the bstan 'gyur which mention his name. He was particularly proficient in the tantras and associated practices of Vajrapani which he passed on to Rechungpa.
