khur mang has two types : rgya khur, growing in fields and producing long leaves and tall stems with 2 or 3 flowers, and wa khur, growing in mountain meadows and possessing thin, dark, lobed leaves and white flexible roots with a milky sap. Both types have a white and black variety each, with either white flowers with a yellow tinge for the first, or yellow flowers for the second (Kletter 2001). khur mang is also called bdud rtsi dar ya kan and the four varieties are the four bdud rtsi sisters for curing diseases (Dawa 1999).
Taraxacum (Taraxacum sect. Taraxacum F.H.Wigg) is a very complex and complicated genus, it seems almost pointless to match tibetan and western classification. Nevertheless, one finds a number of identifications in the literature.
