As a crossbreed the existence of wild mdzos is highly unlikely. Rather a forest deer, as Jam-dpal hints to with the quote. The synonym sri ma ra (skr) refers to 'wild boar' living in marsh lands. Or a zebra-like animal with green and red lines, also frequenting marshy places. Or a forest deer. Monier-Williams has 'a kind of animal frequenting damp places ([according to] to some the ‘Bos Grunniens’ or ‘a young deer’)' (wisdomlib.org)
