2. Senecio scandens Buch.-Ham. ex D.Don (Asteraceae, Senecioneae) Ragwort, Groundsel (Dawa 1999)
3. Senecio faberi Hemsl. ex F.B.Forbes & Hemsl. (Asteraceae, Senecioneae) Ragwort, Groundsel ('Phrin Las 1987)

"rgu drus has two varieties. rgu drus mchog is described in 'KHRUNGS-DPE as, 'rGu-drus grows in the sun as well as in the shade. The stem is long and at each node bears a thin smooth leaf which resembles the leaf of kyi lce nag po (Gentiana tianschanica) in shape. The flowers are yellowish white with red tinge while the fruits are densely packed. The roots are slender and golden coloured. rgu drus dman pa grows on meadows near rocks on cool high areas. Its leaves are light green and thick like rgya men (Papaver sominiferum). The stems are short and the flowers are yellow, resembling g.yu sdong gser mgo (skra bzang) in shape. The fruits and seeds are also similar. The root is yellow coloured and netted resembling the braided or plaited rope of the saddle tied toward the tail portion of mdZo (hybrid of ox and 'bri, female yak). Its shape resemble root of be do (Quercus sp.)" (Dawa 1999)
The images in the 'Tibetan Medical Thangka' are approximative, but the general port may recall a Galium sp with it's leaves in whirls for the superior type (29_011) and an Asteraceae with it's flowerhead for the inferior type (29_012). Dawa (1999) has an Asteracea for the inferiour type, but in (2009) identifies a fumewort as well as Swertia hookeri as rgu drus dman pa and rgu drus mchog. For the latter, one finds the description in the Shel gong that it's form is similar to kyi lce nag po, a group of Gentiana spp, definitely closer to Swertia than Galium sp., and his images for the 2 types are quite different from those in the Tibetan Medical Thangkas. Chi (2021) also identifies several Swertia sp as rgu drus.
The identification as Galium in Molvray are from Russian sources, probably for northern substitutes.
