(med) Of the 3 types of ldum bu re ral, the Shel gong describes the first type, rgyal po re ral, in the notice ldum bu re ral itself. The second and third type of ldum bu re ral are described in the 2 subsequent notices. blon po re ral is described in the notice brag spos, where it is given as synonym. Similar for the third type of ldum bu re ral, btsun mo re ral. It is given as synonym for and described in the notice of brag skya ha bo. The first two types are describes and identified as ferns, the golden spots mentioned indicate certainly the sporangia. The third type is described as a flowering plant and identified accordingly in contemporary sources, except for northern sources where one finds ferns. The Medical Thangkas are also ambiguous. Image 29_005, brag skya ha bo, shows a flowering plant, and 29_006, btsun mo re ral shes grags pa, depicts a fern.
