*One of the four aspects of elemental divination on the basis of which calculations concerning good fortune and good reputation may be made in respect of a given year, month, calendar day or hour. The luck element is determined by combining the anmial sign corresponding to the numeric square of the subject's vitality element with a specific element, on which see Part II, pp. 000-000. The calculation of the luck element is important for the predictions of natal horoscope, where five pebbles indicative of unchanging luck are deployed, and where a pebble suggesting growth may be known as "established forward luck" ([[mdun tshugs]]), in contrast to a pebble suggesting decline, which may be known as "backward void luck" ([[rgyab stongs]]). See Part IV, pp. 000-000. [[GD]] (from the Glossary to [[Tibetan Elemental Divination Paintings]])
