This word is used at the beginning of the main text of the Gab-pa dgu skor, where none of these or other meanings found in the dictionaries work. Here is a sample sentence: nyon rmongs tha rams sngon po dam // de 'byed 'phrul gyi lde mig stor // "[To] the solid blue lock (?) of negativities [we have] lost the miraculous key that opens it." This word is also found in the Gsang-ba Bsen-thub. Also found in Bon vinaya text (192-vol. Bon Kanjur CLXXIV 252): tha ram btsan byed lde mig rnyed bzhin dga' ba'o. Have located it in an early collection of Zhi-byed works: tha rams myi 'byed pa'i lde dmyig la dgos pa myi gda' gsung. Zhi-byed Coll. II 168.1 (for example). This word is actually preserved in Darma language as tarum, 'key' (Shree Krishan's article in Nagano & LaPolla, eds., New Research on Zhangzhung, p. 394). |
