[ārya Asaṇga]. The brother of Vasubandhu and the founder of the [cittamātrin] school of thought. He was the pioneer of the lineage of extensive deeds (rgya-chen spyod-rgyud) and is famous for bringing the Five Wort ofMaitreya (see {byams chos sde lnga}) from Tusita heaven. His works include the Five Treatises of Asanga (see {sa sde lnga}) and the Two Compendiums (see {sdom rnam gnyis}).
