English Definition [atiṡa dīpaṇkara ṡrī Jñāna] (982-1054). The celebrated Buddhist Pandit from Bengal, who came to Tibet in 1042 and lived there for a number of years. He was one of the principal figures during the revival of Buddhism in Tibet in the 11th century. He passed away in Nyethang near Lhasa. His Lamp on the Path to Enlightenment ([bodhipathapradīpa]) was the source of the 'lamriṁ tradition in Tibet
