Living beings, mortal beings. This is very closely related to the word 'gro ba, a point many translators seem to have missed. This term skye 'gro gives the fuller sense of the meaning. The two terms are essentially synonymous, and 'gro ba does not, strictly speaking, have the strong connotation with the verb 'gro as many seem to think it does, in most Tibetan and Buddhist textual usage.
