4th Neten Chokgyur Lingpa Rinpoche, Rigdzin Gyurme Dorje

Short Biography

Neten Chokling Rigdzin Gyurme Dorje Rinpoche was born in Thimphu, Bhutan. He is the IVth incarnation of the Terton Chogyur Lingpa. Terton Chogyur Lingpa was responsible for many termas (treasures), the most popular and familiar being Sampa Lhundrupa and Barche Lamsel. H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche had a dream where the previous 3rd Neten Chokling Rinpoche appeared to him and said that he was going to Bhutan. H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche unofficially recognized the preseུnt Chokling Rinpoche while he was still in his mother's womb. After his birth, H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and the 16th Karmapa then officially recognized him.

At the age of three, he was brought down from Bhutan by a group of entourage led by H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. They headed first for Bodhagaya in India where the wife of the previous Chokling was waiting along with heroldest son, Orgyen Topgyal Rinpoche. At that time, Orgyen Topgyal Rinpoche was 22 years old. From Bodhagaya, they headed for Rumtek, the seat of the Karmapa, in Sikkim. There, Rinpoche was officially enthroned by the 16th Karmapa himself and given the name Rigzin Gyurme Dorjee. After Sikkim, they headed for Nepal where Rinpoche received the entire Chokling Tersar (compilation of Chokling Treasures with commentaries by Khyentse Wangpo and Jamgon Kongtrul) from H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche at Tulku Urgen's Monastery. He has also received the transmissions of Kangyur, Nyingma Gyubum, Nyingma Kama, and Rinchen Terdzo as well as many other teachings from Khyentse Rinpoche. Neten Chokling Rinpoche has studied under some of the greatest masters of our time. He considers H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche as his root master and counts Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche as one of his main teachers along with Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Rinpoche's main practice area is Longchen Nyingthik and the Chokling Tersar and the termas of Khyentse and Kongtrul.

After Nepal, Rinpoche came up to Bir in Northern India where his monastery is based. There, Orgyen Topgyal Rinpoche enthroned him. Neten Chokling Rinpoche was also enthroned by Dzonor Rinpoche at Mindroling Monastery, the seat of H.H. Minling Trichen Rinpoche. H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche was also present that time.

OM SVASTI
Padmakara, the forefather of the hundred accomplished vidyadharas,
Yidam deities, magical manifestations of unchanging Great Bliss,
The assembly of Vajra Guardians and dakinis,
Grant us your true blessing, that we may know your wondrous power!

You who are the prince of scholars and sages,
Holder of the teachings which mature and liberate beings,
The Supreme Vehicle of the Ancient Translation (Kama and Terma),
May your life, bodhichitta and virtuous activity, like the arising moon, be victorious over all!

May the tradition of the Lord of Dharma (the Great Tertön),
Which possesses the seven special direct blessings,
Remain strong and complete until the very end of samsara.
And may the Three Worlds be forever adorned with this spring flower of wondrous virtue!
This was composed to fulfill the wish of the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa.
