Larry Mermelstein was a close student of the Venerable Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Tibetan Buddhist meditation master and scholar, and is empowered as a senior teacher, or acharya, by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, the son and dharma heir of Trungpa Rinpoche. He has been the executive director of the Nalanda Translation Committee for over twenty years, translating Buddhist texts from Tibetan and Sanskrit into English. The Rain of Wisdom (Shambhala: 1980) and The Life of Marpa the Translator (Shambhala: 1982) are two of the committee's many publications.
