The Shel gong shel phreng distinguishes 3 types of tshar bong, a white one with a light stalk and intense odour, a brown one with brownish-green stalk and less odour, and a black one which is not specified but said to be similar to yog mo. Wormwoods (annual) and mugworts (perennial) are difficult to determine and can only be understood if observed in the field during a whole vegetation period, and the assignation of botanical names have to be viewed critically (Kletter 2001) The Shel gong cites a Khrung dpe which says 'tshar bong, a type of 'khan pa ...'. See also mkhan pa, phur mong and yog mo for other Artemisia spp.
