Short History

  • This line starts with a heart-disciple and nephew of the 1st Karma Kuchen Rinpoche known as Wangchuk Lama.

However Wangchuk Lama being listed as a nephew has a small chance of being a mistake, as Karma Tashi had a brother by that name according to the web-page Short Biography of Khentul Gyangthang Rinpoche. Though this I think to be the real mistake as it seems that the web-page has a few other clear and not so small mistakes like 'Longdrol' instead of 'Rangdrol', 'Karma Jigme' instead of 'Karma Gyurme', 'Jigme Tsewang Chogdrub' instead of 'Gyurme Tsewang Chogdrub' of Kathok and 'Karma Nyinched Wangpo' instead of 'Pema Nyinched Wangpo' for Tai Situ Rinpoche. These seem like mistakes easy to make just as brother or nephew may have been made...

Gene Smith's TBRC has Rigdzin Jigme Rangdrol listed with another title of Ontrul. Which maybe be evidence of Wangchuk being indeed a nephew of the Great Lama Kuchen Karma Tashi and not a brother. And so does the book A Garland of Immortal Wish-fulfilling Trees, The Palyul Tradition of Nyingmapa, in the chapter of Karma Lhawang and Karma Dondam it says “Karma Tashi's nephews Ah Sam, a realized meditator, and Lama Wangchug”, when talking about them helping as administrators.
