Foodgrains comprise 2 main groups : 1. gra ma can gyi 'bru (shuka dhanya), grains with bristles, the cereals of the Poaceae family (namely wheat, barley, oats, rice, millet). 2. gang bu can gyi 'bru (shami dhanya), grains with pods or husks, mainly pulses from Fabaceae family, divided into flat (leb mo) and round (ril ba) types. Flat ones are beans and lentils, round ones are peas. gang bu can gyi 'bru includes further sesame, linseed and oilseeds like radish and mustard, all counted as leb mo (Kletter 2001).
