The pulses, sran ma, described in the Shel gong comprise sran chen dkar po (Soya bean), sran ril (Pea), sran leb (Lentil), mon sran dkar po (Hyacinth bean), mon sran gre'u (Urad bean), bal sran and rgya sran (Broad bean) as well as sran ma'i me tog.
Cultivated pulses (sran ma) are treated in the zhing skyes sman section, whereas wild pulses (srad ma) conclude the sngo sman section. Foodgrains, 'bru, are grouped into cereals ('food plants with bristles', gra ma can gyi 'bru) and pulses and oilseeds ('food plants with pods', gang bu can gyi 'bru)
