Śrī Devī - appellation of a class of female wisdom protectors (Mahākalī). They are often considered to be emanations of dbyangs can ma (Sarasvatī. ).
There are several forms, including:
- dpal ldan lha mo dud gsol ma / dud sol ma — Dhūmavatī Śrī Devī. Marpa's protector. (yum of mgon po phyag bzhi pa)
- dpal ldan lha mo rang byung rgyal mo. — Svayambhūdevī. (yum of mgon po ber nag can)
- dpal ldan lha mo re ma ti (re ma t'i) — Mahākalī Rematī Śrī Devī'. (yum of mgon po phyag drug pa)
- dpal ldan lha mo dmag zor rgyal mo. Śrīmatī Pāravatī rajñī. Protector of the Dalai Lamas. (yum of gshin rje)
- lha mo e ka dza ti — Ekajaṭī Devī.
- dpal gyi lha mo / khyab 'jug ma — Śrī Devī/Lakṣmī. (yum of khyab 'jug (Viṣṇu))
"dpal ldan lha mo" may refer to any of the above deities, depending on the context.
[According to Karma Thinley Rinpoche, to keep the Samaya of Palden Lhamo one must maintain unbroken awareness of Emptiness which is her abode. If that awareness of Emptiness is broken then she manifests spreading war, disease, etc.]
